Paula Pivel and Alvaro Lorenzo made the daring decision to leave their professions behind in order to pursue their dreams, giving up their “conventional” careers In 2001 and founding their own winery. They chose land with granite and quartz soils, unusual for Uruguay. Alto de la Ballena was quickly catapulted into the spotlight both in Uruguay and throughout South America thanks to Paula´s talent and unconventional ideas. The style is modern, yet timeless. The bodega`s masterful use of wood is probably one of its greatest strengths.
